Our Five Favorite Spring Beauty Tips and Trends

Spring is in the air! From sunny days to stormy weather, spring can be unpredictable. Now that the weather has gone from cold to warm, it’s not only time to pull out your rain boots, but it’s also time to adjust your beauty routine! To help you prepare for the changing temperatures and wet climate, we’ve developed a list of spring beauty tips and trends to get you through the season – Because even though spring is unpredictable, your beauty routine doesn’t have to be!

1. Spring clean your makeup stash

Spring cleaning doesn’t only apply to dust bunnies; it also includes your makeup and skincare products. A good rule of thumb is to ditch any products that are more than six months old. Using old products can be less effective, clog your pores and even damage your skin. If you notice a change in consistency, texture or odor in one of our products, that’s a good indication that it’s time to toss. You can also check for an expiration date or a “period of opening” symbol on the package showing the number of months a product will stay fresh.

2. Switch to a lighter moisturizer

During winter, we always recommended a heavy moisturizer. Now that it’s spring, let’s lighten things up! Although warm weather leads to more sweat and sun exposure, dehydrating your skin, using a thick moisturizer can make your skin extra oily, resulting in breakouts. Pick up a more natural product that won’t sweat off or harm your skin, like a water-based or tinted moisturizer. And remember, just because it isn’t winter doesn’t mean you can skip moisturizing.

3. Don’t forget your sunscreen

The sun is shining bright, and so are its harsh UV rays. Now that you’ll most likely be spending less time indoors and more time outside, make sure to protect your skin with a sunscreen offering at least an SPF of 50. You can use a moisturizer with built-in SPF, or if you don’t plan on being in direct sunlight, pick up a moisturizer with polyphenols that provide a natural SPF. Sun protection should be a year-round habit, but if you forgot to practice during the winter, now is your time to get back on track.

4.  Stock up on spring foods for your skin

Spring weather brings spring foods, a lot of which are good for your skin. For example, strawberries come into season during the later spring months. They contain an antioxidant called ellagic acid, which works against UV rays by preventing the product of MMP, an enzyme that leads to the destruction of collagen. Additionally, their vibrant red color forms because of anthocyanidin, which contains powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, including anti-again capabilities. Some other spring foods we recommend adding to your diet include artichokes, asparagus, spinach, carrots and beets.

5. 2021 spring trends to try

Thinking of new, creative ways to do your makeup can be difficult. Luckily, you can follow some spring trends to get the creative juices flowing, starting with an emerald smokey eye. Everyone loves a classic smokey eye, but this year is all about color! Switch out your grey eyeshadow for a green and get ready to blend like crazy. Or, if you’re looking for another way to incorporate a pop of color, colored mascaras let your lashes have fun too. From blue to purple, your bright lashes will leave everyone dazzled. And if you haven’t already, invest in a long-wear lipstick. Being able to swipe on a few coats and have your lips stained all day is a trend you don’t want to miss.
