Sofwave vs Ultherapy | LightRx MedSpa

What is Sofwave?

As we get older, our skin begins to wrinkle and loosen. This is caused by the collagen and elastin in our skin breaking down. Sofwave is a new piece of technology designed to diminish lines and wrinkles. It is non-invasive and clinically proven to be effective and safe.

Sofwave uses a unique delivery form of ultrasound waves which makes it fast, safe, and effective on all skin colors. Sofwave can be used to treat wrinkles on any part of the face and since it is nonsurgical it is safer, and more convenient than traditional surgical skin tightening treatments. Due to the nature of the treatment clients can resume their life and daily activities immediately following their session.

The unique ultrasound technology is the Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam Technology, or SUPERB™, that delivers the heat to the correct depth of the skin at 1.5mm in the mid dermis. This activates the body’s natural healing process that repairs old collagen and prompts the body to create new collagen. Sofwave also uses an integrated cooling SofCool™ mechanism in order to protect the uppermost layer of skin from burn damage during the treatment and keep the client comfortable throughout.

What is Ultherpay

Ultherapy is an alternative ultrasound treatment for wrinkled and loose skin. It works in much the same way as Sofwave, using ultrasound waves to regenerate collagen in the skin in order to make it tighter. It is also non-invasive, and FDA approved. Ultherapy is safe, effective, and is widely available. It is also used to treat the chest area, not just the face and neck.

How They Compare

The biggest similarity between Sofwave and Ultherapy, other than the way they work, is the downtime after the treatment. Both are non-invasive treatments, meaning that there is no surgery, or incision of any kind. All treatment happens above the skin. This means that for both Sofwave and Ultherapy, there is no downtime. Clients leave the clinic and can return to their daily activities immediately.

Compared to traditional facelifts which involves surgery and a week or two of downtime after. The next similarity when comparing Sofwave vs Ultherapy is in time to results. Scientifically it takes three to six months for collagen to fully form and reach its maximum effectiveness in the skin. Regardless of which treatment is used, collagen takes the same amount of time to form, however, clients who used Sofwave saw noticeable results in as few as seven to ten days, much sooner than those that used Ultherapy. The skin looked plump and smooth and would continue to smooth out until full results were achieved.

The similarities of Sofwave vs Ultherapy end there. When comparing the two Sofwave’s treatment time is much faster than that of Ultherapy. Due to having a much larger application wand, Sofwave treatment can cover a larger area in a shorter amount of time.

An Ultherapy session can take upwards of ninety minutes whereas a longer Sofwave session is only forty. As for pricing the two are widely different. Sofwave costs on average $2500 for a full face and neck treatment. Compare that to Ultherapy which cost on average $3900 for just the lower face and neck, and an extra $1700 to include the upper face. That is a difference of $3100 dollars for the same treatment from Ultherapy that Sofwave could provide much quicker and with the same, if not better, results. Sofwave is also a much more comfortable and less painful experience than Ultherapy.

Am I a Good Candidate for Sofwave?

If you are looking to reduce your wrinkled skin and do not want to undergo surgery, then Sofwave may be for you. Sofwave is not a direct alternative to facelifts but is great if you do not want to risk going under the knife or do not want to take any downtime. Facelifts specifically target skin hanging on the jowls and neck, whereas Sofwave tightens the fine lines and wrinkles of the skin. Some may want a facelift but might benefit more from Sofwave. The best way to know is to book a consultation with us at one of our clinics and speak with someone about your options.

Does Sofwave Hurt?

There may be some discomfort during treatment, and some areas are more sensitive than others. In order to reduce discomfort a topical numbing cream is used as well as a cooling device on the end of the wand. Most clients have no issue tolerating the treatment and there is no pain following the session.
